The Sierra Espuña - thrusting up through forest, the stony peaks of the Sierra de Espuña are a glorious sight - at 1,583 m (5,194 ft). The indigenous forest has been substantially supplemented by pine. You may well see wild sheep, squirrels, bats and wild boars; mountain cats are less common. The park is rich in bird life, particularly raptors, among them golden, booted and Bonelli’s eagles, eagle and tawny owls, peregrine falcon, Dupont’s lark, goshawk and hawk owl.

There are many restaurants on the Sierra Espuña which are very popular with the Spanish - so you know the food will be good. Another place to stop, on the way to the mediveal village of Aledo, is the old monastery of Santa Eualia (now a hotel) for a cup of coffee or tapas

The white domes are the Spanish airforce Radar Station and is a restricted area.
