Cartagena is the closest City to Mazarron, approximately 30 minutes away and has several archaeological remains including a Roman amphitheatre which is being restored. Other places of interest include the Church of Santa Maria La Vieja, the Torre Ciega, Torres Park and the Castle de la Concepcion. Don't miss the port, where you can find the first submarine in the world ever to be launched. The Romans and Carthaginians feista is held in September.
The city of Murcia is the capital of the region and well worth a visit. Here you will find modern shopping malls and ancient building and monuments. Several daily walking tours around Murcia are available from the tourist office.
Aguilas offers art exhibits, concerts, theatre, and much more. The Carnival de Aguilas is held in February and the entire town is out on the streets in amazing costumes of all shapes and colours. The town with its ample harbour and its walkways along the sea is a must for a great day out
